Knauf Insulation is entering the functional wooden doors market

Knauf Insulation is an established business — with 30 years of experience in the insulation industry, we represent one of the fastest growing and most respected names in insulation worldwide, and are recognised as one of the insulation leaders in the OEM industry.

We are also a leading European supplier of rock mineral wool cores for metal fire protection doors.  Due to new energy efficiency norms introduced by the EU and the European code of conduct for fire protection in buildings, we decided to enter the functional wooden door market.

In order to follow this strategy, we have recently invested in the development of a new generation of insulation cores with the best possible combination of fire protection, sound insulation and thermal insulation properties. Our new product is called the KNAUF INSULATION DRS FUNCTIONAL FIRE BOARD.

KNAUF INSULATION DRS FUNCTIONAL FIRE BOARDS (DRS FFB) are rock mineral wool boards with semi-oriented fibres. They can be prepared as a single-, double- or multi-layer boards. Different function-feature combinations (sound, fire, thermal insulation) can be made with functional wooden doors, depending on the number of layers.

The insulation core offers both our customers and the end market:

  • Excellent mechanical characteristics (compression strength, tensile strength)

  • Very good sound absorption of the doors (32 / 37 dB)

  • Very good fire protection of the doors (can be classified as EI 30 fire protection doors)

  • Excellent thermal insulation of the doors (thermal conductivity 0.040 W/mK), and therefore lower energy consumption for heating / cooling of spaces

  • Lightweight doors, and therefore easy handling and installation

Knauf Insulation DRS Functional Fire Board can serve as a replacement for various types of traditionally used cores for functional wooden doors in the leisure, hospitality, education, health, housing and media / broadcasting markets, such aschipboard, hardwood, softwood, high-density boards made of recycled materials, glass mineral wool or XPS cores.
